DisplayPort, HDMI, Mini DisplayPort and KVM switches, with the one rule that saves most return trips.
Popular searches on COLAMCO.com
Most display problems come from the wrong cable, or from an adapter that only works in one direction. Check the port on the computer and the port on the monitor, then choose.
What to look for
Direction
Most DisplayPort to HDMI adapters only work from a DisplayPort computer to an HDMI screen. Going from HDMI to DisplayPort needs an active, powered converter.
Resolution
For 4K at 60Hz, use DisplayPort 1.2 or HDMI 2.0 and newer.
Length
Passive cables are reliable to about 15 feet. For longer runs use an active cable or an extender.
KVM switches
Share one keyboard, mouse and monitor between two or more computers.

Questions buyers ask
Is DisplayPort better than HDMI for a computer monitor?
Usually. DisplayPort handles higher refresh rates and can daisy-chain several monitors.
Why doesn't my HDMI to DisplayPort cable work?
It needs an active converter. A simple cable only works from DisplayPort to HDMI.
What cable do I need for 4K at 144Hz?
DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.1.
